Annailo, that is me. Age 31 and location Norway. All you basically need to know about me is that I like to tell stories – with words and with images.
Everyone has a story. I find inspiration within myself, in people I care about and people I am fortunate to meet along the way. The painful and the joyful, I believe our stories have a purpose ahead of us somewhere. Life is a diverse journey with its ups and downs. What we learn and experice can be mind openers to someone else, strength when we need it the most or a welcoming break from our daily life. We are living in a world where so many people suffer, we are beaten down with depressing information about the world situation and we are about to destroy the beautiful planet we are a part of. I feel that it is important to take this in, feel it and accept that this is a part of life. At the same time, it is even more important to find the good parts of life, make a difference in the lives of the people around us and find our way to help and make the world a better place. Be conscious, be enganged. The human kind, the relationship between us, our minds and souls, our journeys, actions and adventures are intriguing and inspirational factors to me. Life and death, heaven and earth – and everything between.
My intention is not to create beauty, and it is certainly not to create something perfect, nor something technically or politically correct. I am not a published writer or a journalist, nor am I a professional photographer.Words and images are things I do because it gives me great pleasure. I am sharing it here because of some extraordinay people who have supported me, encouraged me and always had faith in me. I owe it to them. One day I might find the courage to take it a step further. But just maybe.
My work is personal, but not private – there is a huge difference. Privacy is valuable, especially in these modern times of internet, facebook, twitter and wherever else people feel like revealing themselves completely. To create something genuin, I have to be personal. Even to a degree where I feel literally naked and exposed. When I write, I unfold my soul, because I can do so on my own terms and with words that are carefully chosen. Privately I am much more closed, quiet and protective of my inner self and the people around me. I consider every word and image I share, especially online. Portraits are shared only with permission of the people in them or their guardians, and real life stories are rewritten to protect the privacy of the characters. I want to thank each and everyone of you for opening your heart to me, and letting me tell your stories.
I write mostly in English, because most of my friends are spread around in Europe and the US. I feel I am keeping something from them if I write in a language they do not understand. That being said, the greatness of photography is that its language is universial.
If you are here to point out the grammar, punctation and spelling errors, then you are of cours entitled to do so. But I will rather ask you if my words and images moved you. Did they make you think? How did they make you feel? You may not like any of it, but then at least you touched a stage on the scale of emotions. I cannot ask for anything greater than that.
